Introducing Homey for Education

We’re proud to introduce Homey for Education: a new program designed to help students and educators explore smart home technology, IoT, and programming through real-world tools. As part of this initiative, schools, colleges, and universities can access refurbished Homey Pro devices at significantly discounted rates to equip their classrooms and labs.

Why it matters

We created Homey to make smart home technology easy and fun for everyone, including the next generation of professionals shaping the future of smart living. With Homey for Education, we’re giving students the tools to explore automation, energy management, and programming in a practical, engaging way.

It’s incredibly rewarding to see students learning with real tools rather than simulations. With Homey for Education, we aim to bridge the gap between theory and hands-on tech.

Hands-on learning with Homey

Homey for Education is open to secondary schools, community and technical colleges, vocational training centers, and universities worldwide. By integrating Homey into their curriculum, educators can give students hands-on experience with real-world smart home standards such as Z-Wave, Zigbee, Matter, Thread, Wi-Fi APIs, 433 MHz, and KNX-IP.

Students can start with Homey Flow and Advanced Flow to learn programming logic, then progress to HomeyScript or build full applications using the Homey Apps SDK or Web API.

For example, students might create Flows that turn off lights and heating when the classroom is empty, or use the API to visualize energy use from connected devices. These projects make the technology tangible, with real data, real devices, and real use cases.
