Today, we’re introducing the Homey Energy Dongle and the all-new Energy-tab in the Homey app.
The Homey Energy Dongle
The Homey Energy Dongle is designed for European smart meters and provides Homey with live energy data. It utilizes the ever-expanding P1 standard to monitor the electricity and gas usage of your smart meter. Simply plug the Homey Energy Dongle into your smart meter’s P1 port, connect to Wi-Fi, and you’re ready to go.
Customers who already own another dongle, such as one from their EV manufacturer for load balancing or energy provider, can simply position the Homey Energy Dongle in between. It will pass through the P1 port’s signal while simultaneously powering the next device.
The all-new Energy-tab
The Homey app now has a brand-new Energy-tab to help you get the most out of the Homey Energy Dongle or even third-party dongles.
With beautiful, easy-to-read charts, you can monitor your home’s live energy usage and understand your smart meter’s readings.
Looking back in time is easy. Whether it’s days, weeks, months, or even years, seeing how your energy consumption has changed provides powerful insights into your home.
Connect solar panels, electric vehicles, and even smart batteries to complete the overview.
Find your Top Consumers
With Top Consumers, you can quickly identify the devices that consume the most energy. Once you enter your prices, the real costs also become visible.
Once dynamic tariffs become available in Q1 2025, you can see the real-time electricity prices for today & tomorrow. Your top consumers will automatically be calculated against the current price, making energy savings even more fun. For instance, automate with Flow and schedule your EV charging when electricity prices are at their lowest.
Availability & Compatibility
Starting today, customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Lithuania, Austria, Switzerland, and Hungary can pre-order the Homey Energy Dongle for €39. The first shipment is expected in March 2025.
The new Energy-tab in the Homey app is now in public beta, starting with Homey Pro v12.3.0 and the Homey app v9.1.0. Users can follow these steps to receive experimental firmware and app updates.
The new Energy-tab and the Homey Energy Dongle work exclusively with Homey Pro (Early 2023), and support for Homey Cloud will follow soon after. Support for dynamic tariffs, EVs, and batteries will become available in Q1 2025.
