Introducing the Homey MCP Server

Connect ChatGPT & Claude with Homey.

AI seems to be everywhere these days. Sometimes useful, and sometimes… well, not so much. At Athom, we like to stay grounded. Even so, we believe in giving Homey users the tools to explore the frontier of what’s next. That’s why today, we’re introducing the Homey MCP Server.

What is MCP?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s a new standard that lets AI agents — like ChatGPT, Claude, and others — securely interact with external services, including your calendar, email, project tools, and now Homey.

When working with this technology, you’ll notice it’s all still very new. There are no curated “App Stores” for AI agents yet, though we believe they’ll arrive in due time. So for now, this one’s for the brave and adventurous!

What you can do with it

Once connected, you can check the current status of your devices, control them (for example, “Turn off all lights downstairs”), start your Flows and Advanced Flows, and set your Moods.

How to connect Homey with AI agents

ChatGPT setup

You’ll need to be on a paid ChatGPT plan to use connectors.

  2. Click Advanced settings, enable Developer mode, then click Back.
  3. In the top-right corner, click Create.
    • Under Name, enter Homey.

  4. Check I understand and want to continue, then click Create.

Other AI agents

We haven’t tested other AI agents, but they should work as long as they follow the MCP specification. Use https://mcp.athom.com to give it a try yourself.

Looking ahead

We hope Homey will soon appear in the app stores of these AI agents, so you can connect with a single click. For now, we’ll have to wait for those companies to make that possible.

In the meantime, let us know on the Homey Community Forum how it’s working for you, and what functionality you’d love to see next.
