Smart Fridges & Freezers

Discover the Best Fridge & Freezer Brands for Your Smart Home.

A fridge runs around the clock without anyone watching it, so a problem, like a door left open or the temperature climbing, can go unnoticed until the food’s already spoiled. This guide compares the fridge and freezer brands that work with Homey, including what each one lets you monitor.

Choosing a Fridge

Smart Features

Check the smart features against our Best Buy Guide: remote monitoring, temperature control, and door alerts are the ones worth having. They let you catch a problem, like a door left open or a fridge running warm, before it costs you a fridge full of groceries.

Energy Efficiency

Choose a model with a high energy rating. It usually costs more upfront, but a fridge or freezer runs nonstop, so a more efficient model earns back that difference in lower electricity bills over time.

Storage Capacity

Match the storage to your household: enough total capacity, shelving you can rearrange, and a fridge-to-freezer ratio that fits how you actually shop and cook.

Cooling Technology

Multi-zone cooling, humidity control, and dedicated produce compartments keep food fresh longer. Frost-free technology means you won’t have to defrost the freezer by hand.

Size and Fit

Check the dimensions against your kitchen, including clearance for ventilation and enough room for the doors to open fully.

BSH Home Appliances Group makes smart fridges and freezers under the Bosch and Siemens brands, in both standalone and built-in models. The range includes bottom-freezer fridges, side-by-side models, French door refrigerators, upright and chest freezers, and dedicated wine coolers. Pricing sits in the mid-to-premium range.

VitaFresh keeps temperature and humidity at levels that extend food freshness. SuperCooling and SuperFreeze quickly drop the fridge or freezer to the target temperature, so new groceries chill down without warming what’s already stored. LED lighting evenly illuminates the interior and uses less power.

Bosch and Siemens fridges and freezers run on Home Connect, Bosch’s own app for controlling appliances by smartphone. Connecting Home Connect to Homey takes more setup than some other brands, but once it’s linked, you can check whether the fridge and freezer doors are open, see when they were last closed, and view or adjust the temperature from Homey.

LG ThinQ fridges and freezers sit in the mid to premium range, alongside Bosch, Siemens, and Miele. InstaView Tap, one of the line’s signature features, turns the fridge door transparent when you knock on it twice, so you can see what’s inside without opening the door and losing cold air.

Door-in-Door gives you access to frequently used items without opening the whole fridge, which reduces cold air loss. Smart Cooling Plus keeps temperature and humidity steady, so food stays fresh longer. Some models include a Craft Ice Maker for slow-melting ice spheres, useful if you make cocktails or serve chilled drinks often.

Once connected to Homey over Wi-Fi, you can check whether the doors are open or closed, view and adjust the internal temperature, and get notified when a water filter needs replacing or something’s gone wrong. You can also switch on modes like energy-saving, eco, express, and freeze mode, and manually set how many hours remain before the water and air filters need replacing.

Miele is a German manufacturer of high-end home appliances, including smart fridges and freezers. It’s the most expensive brand in this guide, positioned squarely in the premium segment. The range covers freestanding and built-in smart fridges, freezers, and fridge-freezers, plus dedicated wine-storage fridges that hold the temperature and humidity wine needs.

MasterFresh controls temperature and humidity to extend food freshness, with claims of up to 3 times longer than a standard fridge. Push2Open lets the door open with a light touch, which works well on handleless kitchen cabinetry. NoFrost prevents ice buildup, so you won’t need to defrost manually. DynaCool distributes heat evenly throughout the appliance, helping preserve both food and wine.

Miele appliances connect to Homey over Wi-Fi. You can monitor door and light status, get alerts for errors and maintenance needs, set individual zone temperatures, and activate SuperFreeze or SuperCool to bring items down to temperature fast.
