Lafaer is a smart home brand created by GL.iNet, a global networking company best known for its secure routers, IoT gateways, and edge computing solutions. By combining GL.iNet’s expertise in connectivity with new innovations in home automation, Lafaer focuses on building devices that are reliable and privacy-focused.
With Lafaer, GL.iNet is moving beyond networking into advanced home automation, starting with its first product, the Human Presence Sensor LWR01. Built on open standards like Matter and Thread, the sensor integrates seamlessly with modern smart home hubs such as Homey.
Next-gen Human Presence Sensors
The LWR01 is Lafaer’s first connected device and its flagship product. Instead of relying on simple motion detection, it uses mmWave radar to sense real human presence, even picking up subtle movements like breathing. This makes it far more dependable in daily use, ensuring lights or other automations respond only when someone is truly in the room. A built-in ambient light sensor adds another layer of intelligence by preventing unnecessary triggers when natural daylight is already sufficient.
With a wide 120-degree field of view, the LWR01 detects motion up to 6 meters away and static presence up to 3.5 meters. This coverage allows it to oversee an entire room while avoiding the frustration of false negatives when someone is sitting still. The LWR01 can be powered by either 5V USB-C adapter or a set of AA batteries, giving you the freedom to place it anywhere without worrying about cables.
The new LWR02 builds on that foundation. It pairs the same mmWave radar with a PIR sensor and adds temperature, humidity, and ambient light readings, all in one device. Range expands to 4 meters for presence and 8 meters for motion at the same 120-degree angle. The LWR01 couldn't go in bathrooms and kitchens, but the IPX3-rated LWR02 can. It runs on two AAA batteries for over two years, and mounts magnetically, with adhesive, or freestanding.
Smarter Presence Automations
Thanks to Matter over Thread, the Lafaer sensors connect seamlessly to Homey Pro and Homey Pro mini. Homey Pro acts as a Thread Border Router, capable of communicating with the LWR01 and LWRD02 directly without the need of an additional hub.
Once paired, the presence data becomes available as a trigger in Flows, allowing you to create clever automations. Lights can stay on while you are still in the room, turn off automatically once you leave, or adjust brightness based on ambient light levels. You can also fine-tune sensitivity and thresholds so your Homey Flows respond exactly the way you want them to.
With Lafaer and Homey working together, your home gains a deeper awareness of presence rather than just motion. This results in more natural lighting, more efficient energy use, and an overall smarter living experience.
