FYTA

FYTA began its journey in Berlin around mid-2018, producing smart, data-driven soil sensors that help people better understand their plants and give them the care they deserve. With FYTA and Homey, you keep your greens happy, healthy, and thriving.

Finding no genuinely effective solutions for their struggling plants, FYTA founders decided to create their own—fueled by passion and a strong scientific foundation. Today, FYTA consists of nine developers, creatives, and plant and data scientists, all working together to make plant care smarter and more accessible.

Unlocking the Secret of Healthy Plants

Plants give us fresh air, food, and a sense of calm. FYTA recognizes them as unique, “silent creatures” with individual needs. Understanding these needs goes beyond what’s visible, as plants often exhibit subtle signs of distress. Sometimes, you might not even notice when your leafy friend is feeling under the weather—until it’s too late.

FYTA Beam Works with Homey

As plant health depends on factors we can’t always see, understanding the conditions influencing their vitality is key to growing healthy plants. FYTA’s technology aims to bridge this gap, providing insights into factors that determine a plant’s health.

With a database of over 4,500 unique plants, FYTA provides accurate and specific care instructions. It goes beyond just numbers, as FYTA transforms data into actionable insights, ensuring your plants receive the precise care they require.

Data-Driven Plant Care with FYTA Beam

The FYTA Beam is an AI-powered smart plant sensor that gives your plant a voice, helping you understand its needs and keep it healthy. This sensor goes beyond basic moisture readings, providing insights into soil temperature, salinity, pH value (with Kit), nutrients, and illuminance levels. With an adjustable probe length of 30 to 350 mm, the FYTA Beam can provide data for various potted and garden plants, regardless of pot size or substrate depth.

Optimizing Plant Growth

Water is vital for plants, carrying nutrients from roots to leaves and helping them cool down. Too little water causes wilting, while too much leads to root rot. FYTA’s Beam sensor accurately measures soil moisture, guiding users to water at the right time and preventing overwatering or underwatering.

Temperature also affects plant health, with some thriving in warmer and others in cooler conditions. Sudden temperature changes can stress them, causing leaf loss and slowed growth. FYTA Beam monitors soil temperature, alerting you to fluctuations and allowing you to adjust conditions and protect your plants.

Light stimulates plant growth and fuels photosynthesis. Insufficient light weakens plants, while excessive light can cause burning. The FYTA Beam measures light intensity across the spectrum, ensuring users provide the correct amount of light for their plants. Different species require varying light levels, so the Beam helps you understand and act on these specific needs.

Precision Plant Nutrition

With the FYTA Beam, smart plant care is elevated to the next level. In addition to basic soil and temperature monitoring, FYTA provides insights into soil salinity, pH value, and nutrient levels. These factors are especially crucial for sensitive and delicate plants.

The foundation of healthy plant nutrition begins with pH, an insight into the acidity or alkalinity of the soil. If the pH value is off, plants struggle to absorb essential food, regardless of how abundant it might be. The pH value can be measured with the special FYTA Soil Test Kit and added to the Homey app for a complete picture of soil conditions. With the pH value inputted, the Beam alerts you of any imbalances and guides you on adjusting for optimal nutrient uptake.

Even with a balanced pH, excessive salt can severely disrupt plant health. High soil salinity hinders water absorption and damages roots, effectively blocking nutrient uptake. The FYTA Beam monitors salinity levels and warns you of potential issues, providing guidance on how to flush excess salt. Understanding each plant’s tolerance to salinity allows you to maintain a healthy balance, ensuring the plant can effectively utilize available nutrients.

Finally, with pH and salinity in check, you can focus on providing the correct balance of nutrients. These are the building blocks that fuel robust plant growth. FYTA tracks nutrient levels and helps you fertilize accurately, preventing deficiencies and overfeeding. This tailored approach, guided by FYTA’s data, ensures each plant receives the precise nutrients it needs, maximizing growth and yield.

FYTA is gearing up to release four groundbreaking plant care devices. Specifically, the lineup includes an upgraded Beam Gen 2, offering more accurate measurements. Additionally, a budget-friendly Mini sensor is being developed for grouped plants and a clip-on Sphere sensor for monitoring ambient conditions. Finally, an Outdoor Beam designed for garden use with cellular connectivity is in the works. Importantly, all devices will be compatible with the Homey ecosystem and existing FYTA sensors.

FYTA Beam Meets Homey

While the FYTA Beam is a complete plant care monitoring solution, its true power is unlocked once paired with Homey. Imagine automating the entire plant care process, from watering to temperature adjustment.

For example, when the temperature drops below the required level, you can activate the radiator TRV next to your plant and bring it up. Or when the soil moisture level is low, you can trigger the ThirdReality Watering Kit in a Homey Flow and automatically water your plant.

If you are caring for a delicate plant that needs a constant light source, you can have Homey open your curtains during the day when the sun is shining. The possibilities are limitless with Homey and FYTA, creating a brilliant and responsive plant care ecosystem.
