Futurehome Transfer to Homey

Futurehome Transfer to Homey

Like many smart home users, you may be seeking more control, stronger privacy, and a system that fits your needs. If you’re using Futurehome and thinking about switching, you’re not alone. Increasingly, users are turning to Homey for its broad device compatibility, energy management features, local control, and absence of subscription fees.

Homey is a powerful, feature-rich alternative to Futurehome. It functions as a central smart home hub, connecting wirelessly to all your smart devices. In addition to Zigbee and Z-Wave, Homey supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Infrared, 433 MHz, Matter, and Thread. This extensive compatibility allows it to integrate with a far wider range of devices than Futurehome.

Why Homey is a Stronger Choice

Switching to Homey offers clear advantages over Futurehome for a complete smart home experience. Here’s how Homey stands out.

  • Broader Device Support: Connect with thousands of brands via the Homey App Store, giving you far more flexibility and device options than Futurehome’s limited ecosystem.
  • More Powerful Automations: Build Flows that link devices across different technologies—Zigbee, Z-Wave, Infrared, and more—for smarter, more personalized automation.
  • All-in-One Connectivity: Homey Pro features multiple wireless technologies in one hub, including Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Matter, Thread, Bluetooth, Infrared, and 433 MHz, enabling you to control everything from smart lights to your TV and garage door.
  • Advanced Energy Management: Track real-time energy use at the device level and create smart Flows to reduce waste, like turning off appliances when electricity prices spike.
  • Local Control, No Subscription: With Homey Pro, everything runs locally for maximum reliability and privacy, even if your internet is down. Key features are available without a mandatory monthly subscription.

Moving Your Devices to Homey

Switching from Futurehome to Homey is straightforward. Here’s how to bring your existing smart home devices over.

Transferring devices to Homey is easy thanks to the user-friendly Homey app

Transferring Your Futurehome Devices

Homey integrates easily with your Futurehome devices, including specialized hardware like the Futurehome Charge (EV charger), HAN sensor, puck dimmer, relay, thermostat, smart socket, and more. Since most of these use Zigbee, you simply need to reset and pair them with Homey Pro, Homey Pro mini, or Homey Bridge.

The Futurehome Charge doesn’t support Zigbee pairing by default. To enable it, Homey sends a specific Bluetooth command during setup using the official Futurehome App for Homey. Once you’ve installed the app on your Homey, you’ll get detailed step-by-step instructions right inside the Homey app to guide you through the pairing process.

Once connected, the Futurehome Charge becomes more powerful with Homey. You can start or stop charging, lock or unlock the charger, and set limits, such as the maximum charging current. Even better, you can create automation Flows that respond to the charger’s status. For example, set your car to charge only when your HAN sensor reports low overnight electricity prices, and receive a push notification when charging is complete.

After pairing, your Futurehome devices run locally and directly on Homey. No Futurehome hub or active subscription is required for them to work properly.

Transferring Other Smart Devices

Homey’s device compatibility extends beyond Futurehome. In addition to Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and Z-Wave, it works with 433 MHz and Infrared devices. It’s also future-proof, with built-in support for the latest smart home standards, including Matter-over-Wi-Fi and Matter-over-Thread. This gives you access to a much broader range of compatible products.

Wi-Fi devices are usually the easiest to transfer, as many can be controlled by multiple systems simultaneously. To add them to Homey, first connect Homey to your Wi-Fi network. Then, open the Homey app and select New Device. Homey will scan your network for supported devices, allowing you to add them directly. You can also search manually by brand.

Zigbee devices typically require a reset before pairing. For devices like smart bulbs and sensors, open the Homey app, tap New Device, and select the brand. The app will walk you through a quick reset—usually just a specific power cycle. Once reset, Homey will pair the device, and you can control it entirely through the Homey app.

Z-Wave devices, such as sensors, switches, or modules, need to be excluded from their current network—in this case the Futurehome hub—before pairing them with Homey. The exclusion process is the first step and starts automatically when you begin pairing a new Z-Wave device with Homey. For device-specific instructions, refer to the device's manual.
