Introducing the Python Apps SDK
Developers can now build and publish Homey apps in Python, alongside JavaScript and TypeScript, opening the door to many new integrations.
JavaScript and TypeScript have long been the primary languages for building Homey apps. Both are well-suited for smart home development, but not everyone speaks JavaScript.
With Python now supported as a third language, a whole new group of developers can join the Homey community. Whether you’re a hobbyist or a company building professional integrations, you can now bring your Python knowledge to Homey.
Apps built with the Python Apps SDK work with Homey Cloud, Homey Pro (2023 — 2026), Homey Pro mini, and Homey Self-Hosted Server. Every new app brings more devices that Homey users can monitor, control, and automate. So, what will you build?
